Oak Class is made up of our Year 3 children. Our teacher is Mrs Parkin and our Teaching Assistant is Miss Barnett.
Homework is given out on a Friday, to be handed in the following Wednesday. Help is always available in class if needed and a Homework Club runs every Monday after school.
Weekly spellings are based on a spelling rule. Each week the children will investigate the spelling rule in class and will then have a spelling list to learn for a test each Friday.
PE lesson is on Monday, and swimming lessons are on Thursdays. We continue to run ‘The Daily Mile’ so a pair of trainers, which could be kept in school, would be appreciated. Please make sure your child has the correct kit in school at all times as we do have additional sessions from time to time.
Every child will be given a reading book at an appropriate level according to their ability. Please help support your child by hearing them read at least three times a week and signing their diary with any comments you would like to make. Children read their books every day in class, so please ensure they bring their books in on a daily basis. Children with Lexia logins would also benefit from accessing the programme at home for at least 20 minutes a week if possible.
Spring Term 2020
Autumn Term 2019
This term in Science lessons, Oak Class have been studying Rocks and Soils. So far they have found out about the formation of different rocks and have observed and classified rocks according to their characteristics. They have also successfully planned and carried out a number of investigations testing rocks for things like erosion and permeability.
This term Oak Class are having great fun learning to play the ukulele. Mr Taylor (a specialist teacher from the Durham Music Service) is coming in every Tuesday to teach them. They are really enjoying it and are becoming more confident and tuneful as each week passes.
World Mental Health Day 10th October 2019
In recognition of World Mental Health Day, Oak Class watched the live Growth Mindset and Wellbeing lesson being broadcasted by the BBC. They were encouraged to talk about their emotions and took part in a mass mindfulness exercise to help them feel relaxed and calm. #BBCTeachLesson #WorldMentalHealthDay.
