School Council Sherburn Hill Site
The School Council at the Hill Site has six members, one from each year group from Year 1 to Year 6. We meet every two weeks, on Wednesday lunchtimes.
Our site raised £83.35 for Macmillan Cancer Support! We held a coffee afternoon with a design a tea cup competition, and a ‘Guess the number of spots on the cake’ competition. Lots of parents and friends came for a cup of tea a yummy cake, and stayed to watch our achievement assembly.
In the run up to Christmas we also held a ‘Decorate a Santa Hat’ competition, which had some amazing entries!
We have a challenge this term, to raise enough money to buy a new music player for our hall, to use for PE and other events – watch this space for details!
School Council Sherburn Village Site
Welcome to our School Council
Sherburn Primary School invite children to elect members for the school council, who are responsible for a variety of tasks that involve decision making and fund raising ideas.
Operation Christmas Child
The time of year is almost upon us when we begin to think of Christmas and all the activities that go with it. We have been approached again by ‘Operation Christmas Child’ to support their shoebox appeal.
‘Operation Christmas Child’ hope, during the Christmas period, to relieve some of the suffering and bring a little happiness into the lives of children who are less fortunate than ours.
If you would like to participate the closing date to bring your shoeboxes into school is Friday 11th November. This date is particularly early due to the time taken to transport to other countries.
If you are unable to provide a full shoebox, small individual items that are new and unused can be donated for example toothpaste, hairbrush, small toy etc. Additionally, cash donations will also be gratefully accepted at the school office for the charity.
On behalf of the child who will receive your gift, we would like to thank you and your child for your kind generosity.
SNAG Group Meeting
Our SNAG Group (School Nutrition Action Group) met with our kitchen staff and management from Taylor Shaw to discuss our new school dinner menus and asked for our ideas to make lunchtime more appealing. We suggested the following:
- ‘Fruity Friday’ where children could experience different fruits that they had not tried before
- ‘Fun Friday’ where children could select the menu choices on a particular Friday instead of our usual menu. The school council will ballot children in school to find out their favourite dishes and then take this back to the next SNAG meeting.
Visit from our Vice-Chair of Governors
We invited Mrs Halliwell, our Vice Chair of Governors to our School Council Meeting. We discussed our new suggestion boxes and how they can make a positive impact in School.
Mrs Halliwell must have enjoyed the meeting because she asked if she could come again!
Here are some of the suggestions:
- A Teddy Bear Picnic for the end of term
- Add more play equipment such as swings and slides
- Better footballs at playtimes because ours are flat
- More footballs for playtime and more red pens
- Please can you add more ICT time
